In this issue: Your Survey...Goal Weight...Unfamiliar Facts

I did it!

I purchased my first mp3 player! I don’t know how to use it, but that’s beside the point. Bob Dylan said: “The times…they-are-a-changin’” (went to his concert once—didn’t do much for me—but he sure has a way with words). So I, too, must keep changing with the times.

Which brings me to my next point: it’s time to change my newsletter and I’d like to have YOUR HELP! Whether you are a seasoned reader, or a new subscriber, I’d love to have your thoughts on what you like, dislike, would like to read more about, etc.

WOULD YOU PLEASE HELP ME? Having your input would make all the difference! I want to be able to serve you in the best way possible, and make sure that this newsletter and our services meet your needs.

Please take 5 minutes to fill out this survey. As a “thank you” I will email you a complimentary mp3 recording of my CD, “Change Your Life, Change Your Waistline” (Value $10).

Thanks for your help!

Love,
Tricia

Ask it Basket

Dear Ask It:

I can never seem to reach my goal weight. I get within 5 or 10 pounds of my goal and I begin the cycle of eating and gaining weight all over again. I am so frustrated! What is it about my goal that scares me?

~ Tired in Topanga

Dear Tired:

98% of all diets fail. And most people gain back more than they lost. The reason why is because most overweight people aren’t emotionally equipped to be thin. We think that losing the weight is enough, but the weight is a symptom of unaddressed emotions and stress that become magnified when we lose weight.

I overate to cope, and I used fat to protect me from the world; it kept me from being too close to people, and it covered up feelings I was afraid to face. That is why dieting is ineffective. I had to deal with the complicated issues underlying the fat. I had to make real changes in my lifestyle to lessen stress. I had to be able to function without dependence on excess food and fat. I craved being thin, but I didn’t realize that it required taking full responsibility for my feelings and reactions to life. This is no doubt a tall order and one I needed help to do. That is the process we guide people through in Metasteps and “Heal Your Hunger” Coaching. Fat is not skin deep, it is soul deep.

Tricia offers private "Heal Your Hunger" coaching sessions for those desiring maximum results with "weight loss from the inside out". For a fre*e 30 minute session, email Tricia at tricia@betotallyfree.com

Unfamiliar Facts

Did you know that…

  • Taking calcium-containing antacids (such as TUMS) neutralizes stomach acid, thereby making the calcium in them unabsorbable?
  • That sucralose (Splenda) was actually first created as a pesticide (read, an agent to kill living rodents and insects) and was adapted as a “sweetener” after one of the research chemists accidentally tasted it?
  • That in 2001, the average American consumed 45 large bags of potato chips (78%), 120 orders of French fries (130%), 190 candy bars (80%), 120 pastries or desserts (95%), and 150 slices of pizza (143%)? The numbers in parentheses show the percentage increase over the 1981 per person consumption.
  • That new studies on humans have shown that pomegranate fruit and juice can actually reverse atherosclerosis, decrease blood pressure, and protect against prostate cancer?
  • That birth-control pills are one of the primary causes of yeast infections and Candidiasis (due to the higher levels of estrogen, which promotes the growth of yeast)?
  • That even though companies are now required by law to list the amount of trans-fat (hydrogenated or partially-hydrogenated oils) on the labels of their products, there is a loophole that allows them to state that an item has 0 grams of trans-fat if the per-serving amount is less than .5 gram (in other words, if the serving size is 3 crackers, and you ate 9, you could potentially be getting 1.5 grams of trans-fat, when you thought you were getting none!)
  • That taking Omega-3 essential fatty acids and eliminating processed foods and foods containing trans-fats from a child’s diet is more effective at treating ADHD than the prescription drug Ritalin?
