QUESTION: Why does a bird wake up in the morning singing?

ANSWER: Because he knows he can eat anything he wants all day long and not gain an ounce! :)

Do you eat like a bird? Or are you BERATING YOURSELF for your inability to refrain from EMOTIONAL EATING? If you answered “yes” to the latter, why don’t you take some REAL ACTION?

As I mentioned on Monday’s call (which was fantastic…I’m sorry if you missed it) Gandhi said:

“Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony.”

Well, if you keep saying that you want to lose weight, or you need to “do something” about your eating…why not REALLY DO IT?

Just to make it easier to be in harmony with your intentions and take REAL ACTION, I have a special offer for you:

Ask it Basket

Dear Ask It:

I can never seem to reach my goal weight. I get within 5 or 10 pounds of my goal and I begin the cycle of emotional eating and gaining weight all over again. I am so frustrated! What is going on here?

~Fed Up in Fresno

Dear Fed Up:

98% of all diets fail. And most people gain back more than they lost. The reason why is because most overweight people aren’t emotionally equipped to be thin. We think that losing the weight is enough, but the weight is a symptom of unaddressed emotions and stress that become magnified when we lose weight. I overate to cope, and I used fat to protect me from the world; it kept me from being too close to people, and it covered up feelings I was afraid to face. That is why dieting is ineffective.

I had to deal with the issues underlying the fat. I had to make real changes in my lifestyle to lessen stress. I had to be able to function without dependence on excess food and fat. I craved being thin, but I didn’t realize that it required taking full responsibility for my feelings and reactions to life. This is no doubt a tall order and one I needed help to do. Fat is not skin deep, it is soul deep. TO FACE THE REAL ISSUES, ONCE AND FOR ALL, try my 6-week Teleclass: Breaking Free From Emotional Eating.

Health Tips
(Please forward to everyone you know!)

Develop a Drinking Habit and Lose Weight!
(No, I don't mean alcohol)

  1. When you feel hungry, drink an 8-ounce glass of water. It’s easy to feel hungry when your body is simply craving hydration.
  1. Cut back on or cut out caloric drinks such as soda, juices, sweetened coffee and tea, lemonade, etc. People have lost weight by making just this one change. If you have a 20-ounce bottle of Coca-Cola or fruit juice every day, switch to sparkling or flavored water. You could lose 25 pounds in a year.
  1. Instead of whole milk, switch to 1 percent. If you drink one 8-ounce glass a day, you’ll lose 5 pounds in a year.
  1. Check the sugar content of your meal replacement powders and drinks…the hidden sugars may be setting up cravings that defeat your efforts at weight loss.
  1. When you're exercising, don’t wait for thirst to strike before you take a drink. By the time you feel thirsty, you're already dehydrated. Try this: drink 8 ounces of water an hour before and another 4 to 8 ounces every 15 to 20 minutes during your workout. Finish with at least 16 ounces after you're done exercising.
  1. Dilute juice with water: this will help you avoid a glycemic rise and crash.
  1. Drinking too little water can hurt your ability to lose weight. That's because dehydration can slow your metabolism by 3 percent, or about 45 fewer calories burned a day, which in a year could mean weighing 5 pounds more. The key to water isn't how much you drink, it's how frequently you drink it. Small amounts sipped often work better than 8 ounces gulped down at once.
  1. Healthy Lemonade: Filtered water, juice from one lemon, two droppers of liquid Stevia (Natural, healthy, calorie-free sweetener available in health food stores)
  1. Healthy Sprite: Sparkling water (calorie free), wedge of lemon, and one dropper of liquid Stevia
  1. Healthy Punch: Cold unsweetened raspberry tea with a dropper of liquid Stevia.
